James Toney vs Vassiliy Jirov 4-26-2003

I decided after hearing rumblings at BoxRec.com forumns (that Jirov landed more punches and won the fight)... that I would score this fight in the replay on HBO before the Toney vs Rahman fight.

Knowledge of Fighters: I have watched all Toney's fights since this one. I like his style. I watched Jirov him on fox sports against somebody?

Prefight Bias:I like Toney... despite that I think I did a good job being impartial.

Watched: I watched the fight and scored each round when the bell rang to end the round.

Compubox break down
Toney landed a higher percentage in every round for total punches... and in one round they tied for power punches. From round 3 on Toney landed more total punches per round. Rounds 1,2,3, and 5 Jirov landed more power punches. Round 8 they both landed 18 power punches.

Final Analysis
Many rounds Jirov threw 20-30 more punches than Toney. Eventhough James Toney was landing more punches the activity level won some rounds on my score card. Basically this fight came down to who did more damage per round. In the end I had it even going into the 12th and final round. Perhaps I should have score a few more rounds for Toney... perhaps I wasn't giving enough credit to Toney for defense in some of those rounds.

I just don't understand lettermans card round 6 specifically. Toney out landed Jirov 34/64 vs 17/18 and in the power punches 27/47 vs 15/65. He must have made a mistake? I don't know about those Lederman's. His daughter has score some controversial decisions and they both think alike. ;-)

I can see how people can claim it was a bigger margin of victory for Toney but I just don't see how anybody can argue that Jirov won the fight... check compubox if you want !

Lacey beating

I would post my score card for the Lacey fight but I didn't have him winning a single round. What a beating!

It was so one sided I really felt bad for him. He showed heart... he could have quit a number of times.
